Helsinki Beer Festival, Friday
Mood:  party time!
Topic: News
In the evening the festival was open not only to trade customers, but also to the general public. We arrived after 11 o' clock, and since it would last until 02:00 AM, the party should be well underway. And it was.

On the pictures you can see what we saw when we entered the main hall, many people tasting different beers, ciders and other drinks. You could tell many people take this activity very seriously.

After we had leased two glasses for 2 euro each at the entrance, we decided that our first stop should be a Finnish one. So we entered the stand of Stadin Panimo.

Here we got a tip from a friendly gentleman to try out the Amarillo I.P.A. variety, in which I.P.A. stands for 'Indian Pale Ale' as the barkeeper explained. It had everything to do with the brewing process, which we were told is very ancient.

We also met with the very friendly people running the stand for the Finnish Beerbrewing society, or 'Suomen Olutseura', an organization with about 200 members.

As we washed our very own glasses in the washing area (see picture), and took a glance at the performing band on the stage, we continued to try out a Gold Medal winning cider, called 'Old Rose Scrumpy', a prized and delicious cider from the Westons Cider stable. Here we also learned that the Cider market in Finland is second only to that of Ireland, with a significant market share of an estimated 25-30 percent.

We then also met two very nice young gentlemen in their early twenties who were visiting the festival from Lammi. We had an interesting conversation about the meaning of life and after that we decided to go home. We had a great time!
