John Lister and his team have conducted a language research in 70 different countries about annoying cliches. The research revealed that there are universal expressions all over the world, which are disturbing our sense of proper language usage and are making the message quite blurry.
According to the researchers, the usage of cliches can be used as a tool to let the audience forget what the speaker is actually saying.
"If people hear a boring cliche, they just won't concentrate on the meaning of the message anymore", emphasizes John Lister.
