Tomorrow the favorite candidate for the F1 World Champion title Kimi Raikkonen will meet a big challenge in the Bahrain GP. Kimi's engine failed and the McLaren's mechanics had to replace it.
The new rules say, that if you change the engine, you will loose a maximum of 10 places in the starting grid. For tactical reasons Kimi didn't drive his fastest lap in todays qualification and will start tomorrow from the last spot.
The decision was made this way to ensure that Kimi's car will be in a better starting condition compared to others tomorrow, because now he can start with new tires while the others have to use these old ones, used under their cars already during the qualification round.
Since he probably would have received the maximum penalty anyways, the difference is not so big. Kimi himself estimated to get the 6th or 7th best time and it would not have made much difference, if he would have started from 17th grid instead of 20th, what he is doing now.
