So, we are writing 2009 and i don't even know where to begin.
Shame on letting this blog to waste as i read the other day somewhere there are over 1 million orphaned blogs.
The story about Helsinki Times is that indeed what once started out as an idea for a source of english language news - in a blogged format - ultimately became the largest English Language Newspaper in Finland with a weekly print circulation of 15,000 copies.
Now I might be mistaken, but to the best of my knowledge our little old Helsinki Times blog might very well be the only blog in the world that turned into a newspaper instead of the other way around.
This is where you can read the story:

Not bad for a free tripod-blog written by an avatar named Oobio, right?

Carthography and old maps really are wonderful areas where one can find old artistry. Take this old map of Helsinki for example, dated 1902.
New maps on the other hand typically contain much more numerical data, plenty of which can be found from these Geohack Map sources of the Helsinki Area.

Finnish Cuisine recoqnized:
"Helsinki, Finland received a front-page panegyric in the New York Times's Travel section on Sunday. The most northerly capital after Reykjavik is currently enjoying 20 hours of sunlight out of 24.
That leaves plenty of time for R.W. Apple Jr., the Times's Associate Editor, to indulge in a slew of strangely-named berries at the Market Square or Kauppatori ("bilberries, lingonberries, amber-colored cloudberries"), taste the "silky gravlax" at the Kauppahalli, and the "immaculate fish" at E. Eriksson.
R.W. Apple Jr. eats his way through Helsinki with the brio befitting his title of Director of American Institute of Food and Wine. The pigeon stuffed with foie gras prompts Apple to note: "This is the kind of dish you to great restaurants for" though he also writes the place is "shatteringly expensive." At nearby Bellevue, a more typical joint, the borscht is "heartbreakingly authentic," which must be a good thing."
