After the Soviet Union collapsed there were lots of little countries who declared themselves free. Unfortunately in many the Russian empire is still present in the form of ruling and suppressing people.
On the former Soviet Union territory live also many Finno-Ugric nations, closely or remotely related to Finns, Estonians and Hungarians, nations nowadays belonging to EU. One of them are the Mari people, whose authorities are appointed by Moscow and who are systematically discriminated in their own homeland.
